Introduction

Finally, my first blog ever! I’ve been wanting to start a blog for years but never had the courage to do so. But today is the day!

Let me first introduce myself. My name is Arlette, I am 50 years old and I come from the Netherlands. My husband of 27 years is Slovene and after living in the Netherlands together, we moved to Slovenia in 2003. It has been the best decision we have ever made!

My husband’s name is Bine and he is 53 years old. He works as head of production in Novo mesto, a small city, 30 kilometers from where we live. Bine and I have two children together. Our son Larsen was born in the Netherlands in 1999 and is now 23 years old. He studies computer and information science in the capital Ljubljana. Five and a half years later we welcomed our daughter Lexi, who was born in Kranj, in Slovenia. She will be 18 in July and almost finished her third year of highschool.

Bine also has a daughter from an earlier relationship. Janja is  30 years old, married to Blaž and they have two daughters, Kristina who is 7, Viktorija who is 5 and a little boy named Matija who is almost 2 years old. So we are also proud grandparents.

My parents, Franklin and Huberthie, also live in Slovenia about 6 months out of the year. After their retirement, they build a house in our village and now spend 3 months in the spring and 3 months in the fall here. The summer and winter they spend in their house in the Netherlands.

I absolutely cannot leave out our pets in this introduction! As you will learn soon enough, I’m a very big animal lover and if it wasn’t for Bine holding me back, our house would be filled with rescued pets. We currently have 4 rescues: a little dog named Ivy and three cats named Gypsy, Cheetah, and Max.

Because Slovenia is such a beautiful, small, clean and safe country and I love living here, I just can’t help but want to share my life and experience here with others. More and more I hear stories of foreigners wanting to buy a holiday house in Slovenia or even come to live here for good. I have met and helped several people doing just that. Hopefully, I can help more people with this and entertain others with my stories and pictures in this blog.

In the following weeks and months you will get acquainted with my family, our house and the cute little village we live in, as well as the gorgeous nature surrounding it. Please do not hesitate to leave a (hopefully positive) comment or ask me questions.
