Beautiful places: Lake Bloke and Snežnik castle

Today another »beautiful places« blog. I’ll start with lake Bloke (Bloško jezero). It is a good hour’s drive from Ljubljana, towards the Croatian border. It was created around 1970 when a small river was dammed. About ten years ago, the municipality renovated the entire area and made it suitable for tourism.

The lake is not very big, but it is a very beautiful and nice place to visit. In and around the lake there are many different wood carvings, handmade by local residents. Very special to see. For example, there is the water skiing bear :).

Unfortunately, Slovenia is facing a new lockdown, but with a bit of luck, we can all enjoy a cup of coffee on a terrace again soon. Bloško jezero also has a nice bar with a terrace and on the grounds of the adjacent glamping site, a beautiful wooden bar has been built where you can sit inside by a roaring fire in case of bad weather. In winter the lake often freezes and you can skate on it.

If the weather is nice, you can take a walk around the lake, go fishing and in summertime you can even swim there. Everywhere around, all kinds of wooden seats, benches and swing benches are available, so there is always a nice place to relax and enjoy the view. So be sure to check out this nice place!

Just 17 kilometers from Lake Bloke you will find the beautiful Castle of Snežnik. It is located in a beautiful, green area that is perfect for a lovely walk. The castle is very well-preserved and a gem to see, both inside and out. It is surrounded by water and a large park and forests with a lot of wildlife.

Mention of the castle lords of Snežnik is made already in the 13th century, but the castle in its current form, with extension and towers, dates from the second half of the 19th century. The castle was last renovated and opened to the public in 2008. Unfortunately, again because of Corona, it is not open at the moment, but hopefully, it will be again soon, because it is well worth a visit! The entrance is only a few euros and for this, you get a nice tour by a guide who shares a lot of interesting information.

The castle has no less than 4 floors, all of which are lavishly decorated with the most beautiful, antique furniture. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to take pictures inside, but the site does have a number of pictures of the interior that I could copy :).
