Grandpa and grandma back home :)
After our three weeks stay in America, it takes quite a bit of getting used to being home again. When we left, all the trees were still bare and everything looked brown. Upon our return, it is spring and everything is beautifully green again, which is wonderful to see. The peace and quite and the space here are lovely, but somehow, I also miss the liveliness and conviviality of San Francisco, the proximity of the ocean and the beaches, and of course Larsen, Manca, and Olivia. When we returned from Florida last year, I also suddenly had to “get used” to being home again. A strange sensation and something I had never experienced before after a vacation. I absolutely love the sun, sea, beaches and palm trees, and there was, of course, an abundance of all that in Florida. I feel a bit torn I guess; I think it’s because I feel very much at home in America, as it turns out.

Our time in San Francisco was, in one word, fantastic! We saw and did so much and, of course, thoroughly enjoyed our little girl. Naturally, we couldn’t be at Larsen and Manca’s home all day every day, so we played tourists during the day and dropped by the family in the evenings. We were also incredibly lucky to be able to borrow a car from a colleague of Larsen’s for the entire period. We also went away for a day together on two Sundays, and Bine and I went to Los Angeles together for three days. That felt a bit bittersweet, but it was definitely worth it.

Bine really wanted to go to an LA Lakers basketball game because a Slovenian player, Luka Dončić, who is very good and popular, plays there. Unfortunately for Bine, Luka wasn’t allowed to play in that particular game. But it was still great to have experienced it. And of course, we did see the world-famous LeBron James and his son Bronny play.
We also did the Warner Bros studio tour and sat in the sets of Friends and The Big Bang Theory. That was so much fun! On our way back to San Francisco, we drove all the way along the coast, which was a beautiful (but long 😉) road.

Furthermore, in and around San Francisco, we visited Pier 39, the Coit Tower, Alcatraz, Golden Gate Park, Sausalito, Redwood Park, among other places, and took rides on the famous cable cars. Of course, we also drove across the Golden Gate Bridge several times. In addition, we spent a day at Yosemite Park and spotted whales during a 4-hour boat trip in Monterey Bay. All in all, too much to mention.

Meanwhile, sweet little Olivia is doing really well. She is now 2 months old and has already grown nearly ten centimetres and also gained weight nicely. We video call a few times a week to be able to see her, and that is often super fun but sometimes also difficult, and then I have to wipe away a few tears. Fortunately, they are coming to Slovenia in just under 3 weeks, and naturally, we are looking forward to that enormously!
