My blog
It’s been a while since I last wrote a blog post. Over the past few years, I’ve written about 120 blog posts on a variety of topics related to Slovenia. While I originally started my blog to keep family and friends in the Netherlands updated on what’s happening here, it quickly evolved into an informative blog about Slovenia. I wrote about the country, the people, the culture, traditions and customs, beautiful places to visit, and so on. However, I found it increasingly difficult to come up with a topic that might interest people, so I’d more or less decided to stop blogging. I would find that a real shame, though, as I always enjoy writing my pieces once I’ve decided on a topic.

I also regularly received (and still receive) messages from strangers who stumble across my blog online and have questions about buying a house here, for example, and what they need, what things cost, and so on. Of course, I try to answer them as best I can, but I’m not a real estate agent or any other expert in that field. We bought and renovated our house 17 years ago, and in the meantime, certain things and rules have probably changed that I’m not always aware of.
Ultimately, I’ve decided to postpone the decision to stop blogging for a while. Writing is still enjoyable, and I’ll see how many people will continue to read my posts if I write more about my daily life and less about life in Slovenia in general. If interest wanes significantly, I can always decide to stop 😊.

Right now, there’s really only one thing that’s keeping me busy, and that’s the upcoming birth of our first biological granddaughter. Because our son and daughter-in-law have been living in San Francisco since last September, it’s all extra tensive for us. I’m really struggling with the fact that I can only see and hold her in person occasionally (for now). We’re really looking forward to our trip there to meet the little girl. We fly in on March 21st and will stay for about three weeks. Due to circumstances, the little girl will be born around March 7th or 8th at the latest, so she’ll probably be about two weeks old when we see her for the first time. We can’t wait!

But it will be so hard to say goodbye after those three weeks. It would already be hard to say goodbye to our son and daughter-in-law, but now it’s also hard to say goodbye to that little baby girl. Just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes now already. We’re hopeful that the family will only stay in America for a few years and that they’ll then move back closer to home. At least somewhere in Europe 😉. Fingers crossed! It all depends on Larsen’s work. He’s currently enjoying his work at the successful startup “Browser Use,” and both he and his wife, Manca, are having a wonderful time in San Francisco. They’ve managed to rent a cozy apartment there, a fifteen-minute walk from his work.

It’s close to the coast, with views of the Golden Gate Bridge on one side and Alcatraz on the other. A fantastic location.

We’re definitely going to make the most of our time together. First and foremost, the little one (and her parents, of course), but also the city itself and the surrounding area. I’ve already made a whole list of things we’d like to see, haha. We’ll see if/to what extent we get around to it. A blog post (or more) with photos will follow in due course!
